POLICY: VISITATION
It is the policy of the Facility to follow SB988, the “No Patient Left Alone Act.”
PROCEDURES:
- Proof of vaccination or immunization is not required for visitors.
- The Facility will communicate with the family or designated person(s) of the resident when the following will be required or limits will be set. Other visitors may call the Facility to find out the current protocols or limits before visiting. Protocols and limits will be in accordance with the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA):
A. Visitors may be required to participate in Facility-provided training on infection control and education policies, and in screening, use of personal protective equipment, and other infection control protocols.
B. The hours for visitation are from 9am - 9pm. Upon request, the Facility will make provisions to extend visiting hours for caregivers and out-of-town guests, and in other similar situations. The number of visitors may be limited at certain times and visitors may be required to adhere to certain length of visits.
C. Consensual hugs and other consensual physical contact between a resident and the visitor are allowed which may be limited to be done in the resident’s room.
- A resident may designate a visitor as an essential caregiver. The essential caregiver is allowed in-person visitation for at least two hours daily in addition to any other visitation authorized by the Facility. The essential caregiver is not required to provide necessary care to the resident.
- In-person visitation is allowed in all of the following circumstances, unless the
resident objects:
a. End-of-life situations.
b. A resident who was living with family before being admitted to the Facility’s care is struggling with the change in environment and lack of in-person family support.
c. A resident is making one or more major medical decisions.
d. A resident is experiencing emotional distress or grieving the loss of a friend or family member who recently died.
e. A resident needs cueing or encouragement to eat or drink which was previously provided by a family member or caregiver.
f. A resident who used to talk and interact with others is seldom speaking.
- In-person visitation of a specific visitor may be suspended if the visitor violates this policy and procedures.
- Visitors may be required to agree in writing to follow this policy and procedures.
